About the person

Meike Watzlawik is Professor of Developmental and Educational Psychology (Department of Development, Education and Culture) at the Sigmund Freud University (SFU) in Berlin, where she currently heads the Department of Psychology and the Master's program in Clinical Psychology. She studied psychology in Braunschweig, where she also completed her doctorate (Topic: Sexual Identity Development) and habilitation (Topic: Identity Development of Siblings in Puberty), before going to Clark University in Worcester, MA, USA, as a Feodor Lynen Fellow (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation). She was then a visiting professor at the University of Osnabrück and a guest lecturer at various educational institutions before her path brought her to SFU. For several years, she gave workshops on sibling relationships at the Psychotherapy Weeks in Lindau, which resulted in the most recent edited book ‘Sibling Relationships: Challenges and Resources for Development’ (with von der Lippe, Kohlhammer, 2024).

Meike Watzlawik ist Professorin für Entwicklungs- und Pädagogische Psychologie (Abteilung für Entwicklung, Bildung und Kultur) an der Sigmund Freud Universität (SFU) in Berlin, wo sie derzeit die Abteilung für Psychologie und das Masterprogramm in Klinischer Psychologie leitet. Sie studierte Psychologie in Braunschweig, wo sie auch ihre Promotion (Thema: Entwicklung der sexuellen Identität) und Habilitation (Thema: Identitätsentwicklung von Geschwistern in der Pubertät) abschloss, bevor sie als Feodor Lynen-Stipendiatin (Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung) an die Clark University in Worcester, MA, USA, ging. Anschließend war sie Gastprofessorin an der Universität Osnabrück und Gastdozentin an verschiedenen Bildungseinrichtungen, bevor ihr Weg sie zur SFU führte. Mehrere Jahre lang leitete sie Workshops zu Geschwisterbeziehungen bei den Psychotherapiewochen in Lindau, aus denen das jüngste herausgegebene Buch „Geschwisterbeziehungen: Herausforderungen und Ressourcen für die Entwicklung“ (mit von der Lippe, Kohlhammer, 2024) hervorging.
